Thursday Sector Leaders: Materials, Services

In afternoon trading on Thursday, Materials stocks are the best performing sector, up 0.7%. Within the sector, Mosaic Co (Symbol: MOS) and Corteva Inc (Symbol: CTVA) are two of the day’s stand-outs, showing a gain of 3.1% and 1.9%, respectively. Among the high volume ETFs, one ETF closely following materials stocks is the Materials Select Sector SPDR ETF (Symbol: XLB), which is up 0.4% on the day, and up 5.89% year-to-date. Mosaic Co, meanwhile, is up 16.56% year-to-date, and Corteva Inc is up 11.85% year-to-date. Combined, MOS and CTVA make up approximately 5.2% of the underlying holdings of XLB.

The next best performing sector is the Services sector, up 0.6%. Among large Services stocks, Carmax Inc. (Symbol: KMX) and Netflix Inc (Symbol: NFLX) are the most notable, showing a gain of 4.0% and 3.0%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Services stocks is the iShares U.S. Consumer Services ETF (IYC), which is up 0.2% in midday trading, and up 3.28% on a year-to-date basis. Carmax Inc., meanwhile, is down 0.45% year-to-date, and Netflix Inc is up 10.29% year-to-date. Combined, KMX and NFLX make up approximately 5.0% of the underlying holdings of IYC.
